Daniel’s Kraal, Klein-Karoo – sleeps up to 12
Deep in a Klein Karoo valley lies a breathtaking oasis: a luxurious homestead set in a lush valley with rolling green lawns, a large swimming pool and encased by mountains: Daniel’s Kraal.
Built in 1836 as a wagon repair stop, along the original route between Swellendam and Grahamstown, this historic farm features a thatched roof farmhouse, with thick walls and an expansive veranda (or ‘stoep’) imbued with a sense of faded grandeur. The charming bedrooms, chic bathrooms and spacious living areas make for a comfortable, relaxing and restful living space that has been stylishly decorated with antique furniture and trinkets collected from the owner’s extensive travels.
Daniel’s Kraal sits along the old forgotten Caledon Kloof wagon route in 2’300 hectares of pristine wilderness and is home to over 300 bird species. A variety of wildlife such as a giant leopard tortoise, klipspringers, jackal, genets, honey badgers, hares, caracal, baboon, Cape grysbok, porcupine, springbok, gemsbok, bat eared foxes, rock hyraxes, various mongoose , Cape leopard, eland, kudu and Cape Mountain zebra and ostriches frequent the mountains and valleys surrounding the estate.
Set on the edge of an 80’000-hectare succulent biosphere with over 1,600+ species of succulents present in the region, this global biodiversity hotspot is perfect for exploring, hiking, mountain biking, enjoying guided walks, or just taking it easy under the shade of the Silver Oak by the pool with your G & T. Nighttime under an eiderdown of crystal stars whilst chatting around the fire is a perfect way to round off each day: all in splendid isolation. With over 21 mountain passes in the region and many old forgotten farm roads, Daniel’s Kraal is an ideal 4×4 base for regional exploration.
